Valeria Valenza

Valeria Valenza was born in Cagliari on the Italian island of Sardegna in 1977. After finishing her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of Sassari, she studied illustration with Mauro Evangelisti in Macerata in 2003. In 2005, she continued her studies with Octavia Monaco. In 2005 she was winner of ‘La scarpetta di Cenerentol’ Competion on book illustration at Port San Giorgio. In the same year she was selected for the Illustrators Exhibition (Bologna Children’s Book Fair) where she obtained a special mention from one of the members of the jury, Kiyoko Matsuoka. In 2006 she realized illustrations for the book “The Magic Flute” published in Cagliari. In the same year she is back in Macerata to teach at the summer school of illustration. In 2009 and in 2010, she is among the selected artists again at the Illustrators Exhibition.

She is now living in Bologna where she illustrates children’s books and conducts workhops for children on visual art. Her books have been published by Shabaviz (Iran), Edizioni tutte storie, Edizioni Segnavi, Aisara, Elle edizioni (Italy), and by Out of Ark, Penguin, Plum Pudding Press (UK).
