Ryo Kisaka

Kisaka Ryo was born in 1958 in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. She published her first collection of poems, “Jikan wa jibun to” (Time Tells Me) upon graduating from university in 1981. Her second book of poetry with the onomatopoeic title “Tsut-Tsut-To” was awarded the Hanatsubaki Poetry Prize.

Satoko Watanabe

Satoko Watanabe was born in 1961 in Kyoto, Japan. She studied oil painting at Kyoto Seika University. After working at the design office of a Japanese sweets manufacturer, she became independent as a freelance illustrator in 1989 and founded STUDIO14 together with her husband, Michio Watakabe. She works actively, mainly for advertisement and book design.

Seiko Kajiura was born in 1977 in Tokyo, Japan. Studied at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts. In 2008 she won a scholarship from the Pola Art Foundation to study bronze casting and sculpture at the Pascasarjana Institut Seni Indonesia (Indonesian Institue of the Arts) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Her versatile works include watercolors, illustration, installations and bronze-cast skulptures.

Shigeo Nishimura was born in 1947 in Kochi, Japan. While studying commercial science at university, he realized that what he really wanted to do was draw. His encounter with the reknowned picture book artist Seiji Tajima led him to illustrate picture books. One of his first picture books was “Ofuroyasan” (At the Bath House) published by Fukuinkan Shoten in 1983, the first of a series of books without words where children can delight in observing details.

Shiho Dono was born in 1977 in Sapporo, Japan. She studied graphic design at Joshibi University of Art and Design and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (supplementary course with professor Dušan Kállay). Her first picture book, “Maruki no Yanko” based on a Slovakian fairy tale, was published by Fukuinkan Shoten in 2010. She lives and works in the Slovak Republic.
