Mako TaruishiMako Taruishi was born in 1952 in Chiagsaki in Kanagawa, Japan. She recalls a happy childhood spent playing on the beach. She studied Design at the Tama Art University and then worked at Sanrio. The first picture book that she illustrated was “Boku shigoto ni ikunda” (I will Go to Work) published by Fukuinkan Shoten in 1987 with a text by Eiko Kadono. Other titles are “Tsuki e miruku o torini itta neko” (The Cat that Went to Get Milk to the Moon) “Santa-san kara kita tegami” (A Letter from Santa) published by Fukuinkan Shoten. She uses crayon, pastel and watercolor in her illustrations. She is also active in stage art. In the year 2011, she designed the theater sets for "Peter and the Wolf " at the Kanagawa Art Festival.
